BGC Niagara Appoints Joe Macoretta as Chief Executive Officer

 

NIAGARA REGION, ON – The Board of Directors of BGC Niagara (formerly the Boys and Girls Club of Niagara) is pleased to announce the appointment of Joe Macoretta as Chief Executive Officer, effective June 1, 2026.

Macoretta brings extensive experience and a deep commitment to BGC Niagara’s mission, having served the organization for more than 15 years in progressively senior leadership roles. Most recently, he served as Interim Chief Executive Officer, helping guide the organization through the period of transition while continuing to advance strategic priorities, support staff and strengthen community partnerships.

“Throughout this transition, Joe has demonstrated exceptional leadership, sound judgment and an unwavering commitment to the children, youth and families we serve,” said David D’Addio, President of the Board of Directors. “The Board is confident in Joe’s ability to lead BGC Niagara into its next chapter and continue building on the organization’s strong foundation.”

“I’m honoured and energized to take on the role of permanent CEO, and I am committed to expanding our reach to ensure more children, youth and families across Niagara have access to the opportunities, relationships and support that can help change the trajectory of their lives,” said Macoretta.

The Board’s decision follows a comprehensive evaluation process that began following the retirement of JoAnne Turner, the organization’s previous CEO who held the role for 26 years.

“I know and have seen that opportunity changes everything,” said Macoretta. “As a young person growing up in Niagara, I could have benefited greatly from the mentorship, support and opportunities that organizations like BGC Niagara provide, but I was simply unaware those opportunities existed. That reality has always resonated with me and continues to shape my commitment to this work.

“My journey with BGC Niagara began on the front lines working directly with children and youth, and over the years I have had the privilege of serving in a variety of roles. Throughout my time with BGC Niagara, I have seen firsthand the impact that caring adults, safe spaces and meaningful opportunities can have in a young person’s life.”

As BGC Niagara looks to the future, Macoretta’s vision for the organization is rooted in the belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to feel safe, supported, connected and capable of reaching their full potential.

Today, BGC Niagara creates nearly a quarter of a million moments of connection each year between caring adults and young people across our region. Those moments are opportunities for a young person to feel seen, supported and encouraged. Through strong community partnerships, responsible stewardship and a continued commitment to excellence, Macoretta will lead BGC Niagara’s work to expand access to the programs, relationships and opportunities that help children, youth and families thrive across Niagara.
