BGC Niagara Receives Grant David S. Howes Fund Grant to ensure aquatics programs continue in Niagara Falls
June 12, 2023 – Swimming is not only a fantastic and fun form of exercise, it’s an essential life skill that can benefit all children and youth. Thanks to an incredible $35,000 grant from the David S. Howes Fund with the Niagara Community Foundation (NCF), BGC Niagara will be able to continue to offer low-cost aquatics programs in Niagara Falls.
The grant will be used to cover some of the costs of replacing five compressors associated with the HVAC system servicing the Niagara Falls pool. The remaining $45,000 in projected costs will be covered by other community partners, including BGC Niagara Foundation, which accepts donated funds from the community to support BGC Niagara’s programs and services.
Aquatics programs at BGC Niagara are offered year-round, and include lessons, open swims, fitness classes and more for people of all ages. The replacement of the compressors is critical to the continued delivery of these programs in Niagara Falls.
“We’re so grateful to the Niagara Community Foundation and the David S. Howes Fund for helping us to keep our pool accessible and our aquatics programs low-cost, by contributing to this project,” said BGC Niagara President, David D’Addio. “Members of our community from young babies to older adults depend on our pool for exercise and recreation, and this grant will allow us to keep our programs running sustainably.”
The replacement project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
