The BGC Model is more comprehensive than prevention, recreation or educational programs alone.
The development approach offers children what research says is the most needed, relationships with positive role models (adults and peers), structure and safety, access to a diverse range of programs that include recreation, play and expression, opportunity for acquiring positive behaviours, self-esteem and hope for the future.
Program Philosophies
The success of the BGC programs and services is greatly dependent on established principles that support the Club’s values.
No One is Turned Away
- No child is denied access to member programs, due to financial constraints.
- Programs are made as accessible as possible through a low cost participation model.
- Fee subsidies can be made available without a “means” test.
Children and youth are supported
- Transportation, meals, and snacks can be provided.
- Behaviour management practices ensure that children and youth are supported in a positive manner during difficult times.
Safety and security is paramount
- All-access is monitored and recorded at each unit.
- Employee supervision ratios are maintained and best practices are in place at each unit.
We Are Open to All
- Inclusion is supported.
- Special needs are accommodated, including assistance in securing one-on-one workers through the Regional Municipality of Niagara and partner organizations.
The broad spectrum of programs and services offered provides children and youth 0 – 24 years of age, with food, shelter, transportation, childcare, recreation, leadership, and life skill programs and services. The Club utilizes a developmental approach in every program focusing on increasing a young person’s exposure to positive and constructive activities, supporting them to become healthy, responsible, compassionate, and competent. All Club program outcomes are measured against the BGC Canada’s “Model for Success”.
